Karen Nagad
HOA Law. Karen assists boards of directors with all aspects of HOA management, including advising boards on the Davis-Stirling Act requirements, issuing legal opinions on maintenance responsibilities, attending board and membership meetings,  restating governing documents, obtaining court approval for restated documents when necessary, handling of petitions and recall elections, drafting and reviewing vendor contracts, and drafting cease and desist orders and violation hearing notices to members. She is admitted to practice in the State of California as well as the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. 

Litigation. Karen also represents associations in all aspects of litigation such as obtaining restraining orders to protect boards and employees from harassment, obtaining injunctions prohibiting homeowners from making unauthorized alterations to their units, participating in IDR and ADR, and resolving contract disputes with vendors. Karen also serves as Cumis counsel to ensure the association’s interest are best served when the association’s defense is being handled by an insurance carrier. 

Experience. Prior to joining Adams Kessler, Karen practiced as a trial attorney with the largest in-house insurance defense firm in Southern California. Karen has been a vocal advocate for clients in trials, arbitrations, mediations, and mandatory settlement conferences. As a result of her skill and tenacity, she has a very high trial success rate. Karen has experience in all aspects of litigation, including taking and defending depositions, propounding and responding to discovery, and drafting and arguing motions. She also received training as a mediator and earned a certificate of completion that satisfies the Dispute Resolution Program Act.

Education. Karen earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from California State University, Northridge. She then earned a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School. While in law school, Karen was a volunteer member of the Loyola Cancer Legal Research Center, assisting hundreds of people in obtaining free legal advice regarding health, housing, family, and child protection issues. During that time she also clerked in a firm representing clients in a variety of actions, including contract disputes, product liability, employment issues, personal injury and wrongful death. 

Language. Karen is fluent in Hebrew and Farsi and conversant in Spanish.
